SMART Cable
The SMART Cable allows a standard cable in the support pattern to be directly replaced with an instrumented cable capable of carrying out the support requirements of the cable it replaces and giving a clear indication of the cable loading at six points along its length.
Load determination is based on stretch of the cable bolt. The results may be used to assess the factor of safety of the support, thereby optimising support design and minimising risk. This technology has been successfully proven in Canadian, Australian and American mines.
The SMART Cable can be supplied as an “off the shelf” length or custom-built to match your cable design. Any seven-wire strand, plain, garford bulb or bulge cable layout can be accommodated with variable bulb spacings and debonded sections.
The instrumentation does not affect the physical appearance of the cable, or its bond strength properties.
The SMART cable can be installed by your cable bolt crew, as a routine installation, or by a Coffey Mining instrumentation specialist. The instrument head is contained within the borehole offering additional protection, and the cable may be plated if required.
