Resistance Wire Extensometer
A simple, accurate, light weight extensometer for the measurement of displacement or deformation in rock. It can be simply installed into a borehole using cement grout. Multiple Resistence Wire Extensometers (RWEs) can be installed nose-to-tail to measure segments of a borehole. RWEs can be monitored using an inexpensive hand-held readout or by a data acquisition system.
Specifications:
- common active length 1m or 2m, albeit other lengths up to 0.5m-4m available on request
- 160-200mm range in extension, 5mm range in compression
- resolution using hand-held readout 0.001mm, accuracy ±0.01mm
- four core polyurethane covered cable, Ø5mm
- deferential voltage output
- changing length of data cable does not alter zero offset, or calibration factor
